Santoku 180mm Ryoma Rainbow coloured damascus knife
As the second Haiku Intl. brand alongside the Japanese Haiku knives made in Seki, Japan, Ryoma's Ryoma Rainbow range coloured damascus knives ventures into new territory between tradition and modernity, positioning itself as a forerunner of new technical developments in the world of cutlery and more specifically kitchen knives and tableware.
The damascus used in the Ryoma Rainbow kitchen knives is a hand-sharpened, artisanal damascus whose iridescent steel colours create a striking visual effect that changes according to the light and its angle it is seen. The aestheticism of these colours comes from the three alloys that make up the blade: japanese AUS10, a highly carburised steel with 1% carbon, copper and brass for the gold colour. The result from the craftsmen at Haiku Intl. is a 67-layer damascus and hammered blades. A new innovation in the kitchen knife industry, coloured damascus is a technical feat, both visually and in the way it is crafted. The different alloys do not have the same melting point, and craftsmen who master this technique are extremely rare.
The blades go along with a traditional octagonal handle made from rosewood. Rosewood is a very hard, moisture-resistant wood, perfect to use in the kitchen environment. Rosewood is a natural wood, so it can come in a variety of colours and shades. It is a highly sought-after wood, used in particular for luxury furnishings and musical instruments.
The Santoku knife is the most versatile blade in the kitchen. It is primarily oriented towards cutting vegetables than the Chef's knife which is also a very versatile blade. Often shorter than the Chef blade, the Santoku knife is thin with a rounded tip that will be used in 90% of kitchen tasks on meat, fish, fruits and vegetables naturally.
