Kasumi Masterpiece represents the pinnacle of Japanese manufacturer Kasumi’s craftsmanship. This exceptional range is produced in small batches by the manufacturer’s most experienced craftsmen, using processes that are even more demanding than those employed for other Japanese Damascus knives. The result: a Damascus blade with an even more refined pattern and exceptional sharpness, achieved through a second sharpening on a #3000 fine-grit stone. Distributed in only a few countries worldwide, the Kasumi Masterpiece range embodies the very pinnacle of Japanese cutlery.

The second most useful kitchen knife (after the Chef's knife). A true must-have once you develop a taste for cooking.

– Steel: VG10 1.0% carbon + 32-layer Damascus (or 64 pairs/odd layers), hardness ~61-62°HRC
– Handle: water- and heat-resistant micarta
– Grinding: ambidextrous V-grind with a 15° angle on each side. Double-ground with #3000 fine stone and double-polished edge.
– Made in Seki, Japan

This small kitchen knife is ideal for all precision tasks. Peeling, trimming, or even carving become simple and enjoyable tasks thanks to its maneuverability.

Kasumi is the oldest family-run cutlery manufacturer in Seki, Japan.

Kasumi is a pioneer in kitchen Damascus steel and has played a major role in popularising VG10 steel. Based in Seki, Japan, the company has been upholding its renowned artisanal expertise for several generations, working alongside some of the country’s finest craftsmen. Kasumi is also the oldest cutlery manufacturer in Seki, Japan capital of the cutlery industry. Through each of its creations, the brand showcases a precious heritage blending tradition, innovation and Japanese identity. The design of its knives immediately reveals this fusion of past, present and future. Committed to the premium sector since its inception, Kasumi has always been at the forefront of, and an inspiration for, cutlery trends.

The Masterpiece range name fit perfectly. Each knife is crafted exclusively by master craftsmen with over thirty years’ experience. The techniques used to create these blades require rare mastery, particularly in the creation of the halo damascus pattern, also known as ‘cloud’ damascus. More complex and technical than traditional horizontal damascus, this spectacular pattern demands a jealously guarded expertise.

Kasumi also takes the quality of the cutting edge to the next level thanks to an extremely meticulous sharpening method. The blades are hand-finished on a flat circular stone, a technique used by very few craftsmen in Japan. Each knife undergoes double sharpening and double polishing, resulting in a remarkably fine edge and allowing for direct maintenance on a very fine #3000 stone.

To complement this exceptional blade, Kasumi has chosen a micarta handle, a fine material prized for its resistance to moisture, temperature fluctuations and the passage of time. The result is a range of knives as rare as they are refined, whose craftsmanship rivals their beauty.
