Kasane
KASANE leads us, through all our senses, to the hills above SEKI City, in the heart of the Japanese archipelago.
At the start of the project, Kasumi looked into how many female users perceive kitchen knives : they often seek an object that is intuitive, comfortable, elegant and a pleasure to use. The project also took into account differences in hand size – particularly the fact that many women have smaller hands – in order to offer a particularly natural ergonomic design.
Designed by a woman and crafted by women, KASANE embodies a different vision of Japanese cutlery: an approach in which elegance, soft lines and emotion are just as important as technical mastery.
KASANE by Kasumi embodies Japanese aesthetic ideals, where technical mastery takes a back seat to the purity of form. The use of yamazakura – the wild mountain cherry tree, whose grain is unique in every piece – is the foremost expression of this. Cherry wood holds a very special symbolism in Japan: constant renewal and eternal beauty. The form complements the visual design : a tapered handle that sits away from the body, with lines so refined they seem to fade into the background. Kasane never flaunts its technical sophistication: it reveals itself naturally in every detail. An aesthetic of simplicity, true to Japanese art where beauty arises from simplicity.
KASANE, a perfect balance between beauty, ergonomics and precision.
